Kerry has called for continued investment in Bristol to help people back into work. This comes as the news that the UK is now out of it’s recession with GDP showing growth for the last quarter of 2009.

Figures released last week show that in Bristol, unemployment figures in the 1990’s reached 26,265 people locally. In the 90’s that was a proportion of 10.9%. In December last year 10,799 people were unemployed – or just 3.8%. That’s 59% less people claiming unemployment benefits in November 2009 than December 1992, showing investment is working.

The Government has invested £5 billion in helping the unemployed including the creation of the Future Jobs Fund which aims to generate 170,000 additional jobs. The Conservative party opposed these plans.
